About The Author

John R. Anderson

John R. Anderson

Dr.John Robert Anderson is a Canadian-born American psychologist. He is currently a professor of Psychology and Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (USA).

John Anderson is widely known for his cognitive architecture ACT-R and rational analysis. He was also an early leader in research on intelligent tutoring systems, such as cognitive tutors. He has published many papers on cognitive psychology, including recent criticism of unjustified claims in mathematics education that lack experimental warrant and sometimes (in extreme cases) contradict known findings in cognitive psychology.

Cognitive Psychology and Its Implications, 9th Edition, (PDF) takes college students to the front of the field and introduces them to main discoveries of cognitive psychology. With clear and accessible explanations, Anderson shows students how mental processes are examined and how we know what we know about the mind. This ebook introduces college students to both the cutting-edge findings of cognitive neuroscience and classic behavioral studies. Experimental data, brain images, sample stimuli, and research tasks woven throughout the ebook give students a real understanding of how research is conducted and the excitement of discovery. Captivating examples and applications of cognitive theory keep students engaged.

Reviews

“The ebook does an excellent job of including traditional foundational behavioral cognitive psychology studies on every topic, and following this up with the latest work in neuroscience.” — George Seror, Univ of Houston, Downtown

“The main strength is the breadth of coverage in this textbook, I also really like that the author places himself in the field by providing his own research, and sharing insights from the development of the field.” — Patrick Carolan, Saint Mary’s University

“It think the key strengths of Anderson’s text are his use of real world examples outside of the discipline to bring life to theoretical points and his use of figures/graphs to show the empirical, data-driven knowledge base of the discipline.” — Russell Costa, Westminster College
