Dr. Michael W. Passer is Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Washington. He went to the University of Rochester intending to major in physics or chemistry. However, after completing introductory psychology and a seminar on the nature of the mind, he developed a passion for psychological science. Under the guidance of Dr. Harold Sigall, he began his career as an undergraduate researcher. He also served as a volunteer undergraduate introductory psychology Teaching Assistant. He was awarded a Danforth Foundation Fellowship, which partially helped finance his graduate studies and gave him access to highly beneficial national conferences on college teaching.

Dr. Passer earned his Ph.D. from UCLA, where he worked with Dr. Tara Scanlan in the Department of Kinesiology to study competitive stress, self-esteem, and attributional processes among young athletes. He also conducted laboratory research on attribution theory under the primary mentorship of Dr. Harold Kelley. He has worked on several applied research projects in industrial-organizational psychology at the University of Washington, where he has also tested his hypotheses in the field with young athletes. For the past 20 years, he has also served as a Senior Lecturer and the faculty coordinator for the university's introductory psychology courses.
